That's about right, although they left out the part about sticking the pilot in a titanium bathtub. And yes bathtub does seem to be the proper term for the armored compartment for the pilot.
But still, that was also secondary to having a really monstrous gun.

The A-10 is the poster child for the triumph of function over form. Personally, I think it's a gorgeous piece of work, but I know that my aesthetic sense is rather skewed...
