but I thought I should post first.

The party was lovely. Really good. I rarely stopped moving, but it was a happy sort of motion, and mostly due to the fact that I don't throw these often enough to just trust that things will go smoothly. They did, though.

We didn't watch any movies other than Kung Fu Hustle, which most of us came in on the middle of because [livejournal.com profile] silverkun and the Weasel were watching it while the rest were in the hot tub just outside. I prefer what we did instead of watching movies: snack and talk.

The sacrificial fire went well, even when we had to add more coals to keep it going. Meat, and asparagus, and corn, and finally marshmallows. Then hot tubbing, then root beer floats and lemon cake with some of the lightest buttercream frosting ever. And more talk. Then the clock struck midnight and people started to turn into pumpkins, though I didn't guide [livejournal.com profile] kuritzky out of the driveway until nearly 1. And now it's just me, the Weasel, and [livejournal.com profile] foogod.

I was handed a few items (thanks, guys!), but for the most part I enjoyed the company. The trouble with inviting people whom you all like and want to spend time with is that you never know quite where to focus... I think I got a little time with everyone, though, and I hope no one felt left out. I certainly felt lucky to see all the people, and in some cases, just the fact that they showed up was a gift. [livejournal.com profile] kuritzky, [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan, [livejournal.com profile] emmett_the_sane with [livejournal.com profile] caesia, and most especially a brief visit from the elusive Wayne... That added to the fun of being around people I see more frequently (or whom I can at least get a hold of more readily). Wayne in particular was one I had not expected, to the point of not inviting him until late because I was sure he wouldn't be able to come. And yet he said he could, and he actually did.

I missed those who couldn't come. [livejournal.com profile] firestrike, you in particular have to make it up to me later. ;)

So... If I'm to make it out to Geyserville by 2 tomorrow I should go to bed. Thanks for the excellent birthday party.

[livejournal.com profile] our_meg asked me what to bring. Der.

Feel free to bring:

  • Something to grill. There usually ends up being plenty of food, but more is welcome. That includes veggies etc. I have been known to give in and roast marshmallows, so I may have some of those on hand if the urge strikes. That means you get to supply graham crackers and chocolate, should you so desire.

  • Munchies and drinks you want. I'll provide regular Coke, Squirt, and homemade root beer; I'll also have onion dip and guacamole with potato and tortilla chips, plus vanilla ice cream for floats. Oh, and homegrown popcorn. Anything more needs to be brought.

  • Any movies you think would be cool to watch. I have an assortment, ranging from odd (Running Time and The Wizard of Speed and Time) to funny ([livejournal.com profile] shadowwalkyr's copy of Real Genius and my tape of Blazing Starships) to just fun (Die Hard, Legend, and The Last Starfighter). That's not all I have, but it's a good start. If there's one you want to show, bring it, or we can talk to the nice people at the video store.

  • Party games you're fond of. This isn't planned to be a full-scale Munchkinfest, but the dining room table should be available for a round or two of something fun.

  • A bathing suit, if you are a) planning to hot-tub and b) self-conscious. The tub is clothing-optional.

I hope that clears things up a bit. My parents plan to be out to dinner for quite a bit of the evening, and have promised to stay out of the way for the rest. *grin*

Well, there's leftover lasagne in my fridge and a few more memories in my head. It must be the end of the Bash again.

Each one is different. I say this after eight years and I'll likely still say it after eighteen. As compared to the rest I've been to, this was... nice. Not as superb as a couple of others, definitely not bad. Quietish but not dead. Beyond that, as with anything, I think you had to be there.

I was thinking during the drive back, but most of that is still sufficiently lacking in form that I won't try to articulate it here. It was mostly about the nature of my LiveJournal friends list -- I think everyone has slightly different criteria for who makes it onto the list -- and looking over my discussion with Tigger about the friends/loves spectrum. That's a followup on my previous post, and a subject I will be coming back to when the pieces settle out in my mind.

It's so tempting to coast for the next week, but I need to get several things done... I need to clear out the garden, if I can do so without killing myself, I need to settle a few school things, and I need to meditate. I can't really expect to do that daily, but several times this week would be nice. It would help coalesce a bunch of my trains of thought, I think, and help me feel better in general.

But for now, the weekend is done. Time for me to get some sleep.
