torquillIt's been a while since I last updated... I've been kind of busy, if not as productive as I would like.
The other morning Nick and I were woken up by a noise in the street. The first thought for both of us was "it's not the day for garbage pickup." It was pretty regular, and sounded like a metal garbage can being slammed. There was also a hum of a truck or machinery. This, of course, prompted me to think, "Somebody with powered body armor is playing kick-the-can with a garbage can down the street."
It's certainly what it sounded like. Punt. Punt. Punt.
I closed the window, but we could still hear it going down to the far end of the street. Then back up, past us, and then forward again, past us. It went on for a good half-hour at 9am, and neither of us could figure out what it was.
That is, until we pulled out of the driveway later that day, and saw that all the road dots were missing.
So we get to have our road slurried tomorrow, and that means parking all the cars on the next street over. Asphalt smell, joy joy... time to close all the doors and windows and spend the day over at the Branstads', despite the fact that they have no net access.
There are also (count them) five places in downtown Concord/Pleasant Hill where roadwork is going on. Not paving, no -- as in, tear up a square of pavement and work on it for weeks with heavy machinery. Only two of the five are the same project. Lots of merges to one lane on busy arterial streets, all happening at once...
