Doing well
May. 2nd, 2005 11:59It's registration time again. I had to trash my pre-calculated schedule, because (once again) I forgot to check location... and I was not going to drive down to Hayward for a 5pm bio class. No, no, no.
So I scrambled. I registered for Ochem first, right after class at LMC, because Ochem is at DVC and I was afraid it would fill fast. I got in with a few slots to spare. I had to go home to figure out bio, but there I discovered that DVC had a section taught by the teacher I wanted, and it was still open. *pounce*
Two science classes, both at DVC, and I didn't have to fight for them? Better find a coat for ol' Mephistopheles.
Register for Ochem: check.
Decent teacher for Ochem: check. Trish has a good rep, and is said to be fairly laid back.
Time slot for Ochem: 9:30am-2pm, T-Th. Not too bad.
Register for Cellular Bio: check.
Decent teacher: check. Scott Matern is, by all accounts, a kickass bio teacher.
Time slot for bio: 5:30-10pm, M-W. I don't mind night classes.
Monday and Wednesday nights will be a matter of go home, eat, and fall into bed so that I can get up for a 9:30 class. Still, if the class is at DVC (5 miles away) at 9:30, I have to get up at 8 at the earliest; I'm currently getting up at 6:30 and 7:30 all week for bio. I can manage this. And since this is all at DVC, I have Fridays free... so I get weekends that start at 2pm on Thursday and run until 5pm on Monday. Neat.
Since this went so smoothly, I have to wonder where the kick in the crotch is this time.

Date: 2005-05-02 19:47 (UTC)if you look too hard for a kick in the crotch, you'll find it. sort of the reverse of wishful thinking!
that's not to say, be unprepared, but don't bring it on yourself either!

Date: 2005-05-02 20:24 (UTC)It's underfunded and incompetent, hiring too few teachers at too low a wage, who are then angry and constantly threatening to strike. If this next semester goes easily from here on, I will be very, very surprised. Pleased, of course, but still waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I'm looking forward to the more convoluted, yet polished, bureaucracy of the UC system. At least their mazes are more stable. :)
