I had my long-anticipated doctor's appointment today. Long story short: I think I'll keep him.
It's been a rough couple of weeks; I've been staying home, driving as little as I can, and today I felt especially wretched before my appointment. I think he picked up on that. The more we talked, I could see him getting more intrigued, which is good... he recommended a set of tests which I was happy with, including an MRI. He also suggested a sleep study, but I think that's mostly because he's interested in my CFS, which nobody's looked into for over ten years. He wants to do a sed rate and Rf too, for the same reason.
He's not discounting the possibility of thyroid or pituitary involvement, though... he seemed to take into account the fact that I'm a diagnostician trained at Davis, and though my field is different, I do have a grasp of how diagnosis goes. He's young, brisk but not cold, confident without being arrogant, and curious -- which is a characteristic I think is essential in my doctors. He knows my gyno and thinks highly of her, which is a good sign. He also didn't seem threatened or defensive because of my depth of knowledge, or that I was challenging his assertions. Very good indicators indeed.
I may end up doing more tests again for a while, but that's fine; if he wants to throw the weight of County Health at my CFS, I'm all for it as long as he's not neglecting my immediate issues. He may turn up some things which give us more info, at least.
The lab wasn't open and I need to schedule an MRI (if the backlog is too long at County, I can go somewhere else that takes Medi-Cal). So no answers immediately, but progress nonetheless.
