torquill: A road sign that reads "cruve" (humor)

I don't use my tarot deck for myself much these days; it's more of a tool for clarity than any way to predict the future or suggest direction. Most of the time I'm pretty clear on what's happening, even if I'm not sure what I want to do about it.

Just for S&G, though, I pulled it down, shuffled, cut, and drew a card.

The Green Man. I busted up laughing. Probably the single most appropriate card I could have gotten from this deck... the 0 card which leads the Major Arcana.

"...it indicates that powerful forces are at work in your life breaking down the old order so that a new one may emerge. You may have been feeling restless and discontented and have an overwhelming impulse to throw away everything you have worked for to seek new new experiences and new horizons, without any clear idea of what these will be. This course of action will inevitably lead to a period of chaos and you will leave behind some old friends and relationships. However, you will meet new people and begin a new phase of existence in which you will learn and grow immeasurably. Trust in your instincts [!] and the new pattern of your life will eventually emerge from the chaos and become clear.

"Spiritually you will receive unexpected guidance and fresh inspiration with experiences far beyond the usual. Precisely what you seek is not yet clear -- you may greet the call with a mixture of excitement and anxiety; it is a leap into the dark."

I drew two more just to see what happened; the reversed Eight of Cups ("Abandonment", no symbolism there) reminds me that I can't look to another person to supply what I lack, as it must come from within. And the Knight of Cups tells me to open up to a new romantic relationship and the feeling of being in love. "Opportunities should be seized; they will not present themselves again.

"Spiritually, this card relates to the lessons of the otter. ... The otter catches the Salmon of Knowledge, and its form was adopted by deities and magicians in order to partake of its learning. Otter familiars teach the way to go beyond the surface of a particular teaching or tradition to reach the core of truth that lies within it. Otter is a creature of earth and water [cough] and teaches you how to balance these elements within yourself. You need to be practical to get things done, but you need to dream to know what is worth doing. A whole person knows how to work hard, but also how to play and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

"The Knight of Cups may mark the appearance in your life of a man. He is creative and artistic, charming and good-natured, caring nothing for money or status. He is a romantic with high ideals and can always be counted on to champion the underdog. He hates to be restricted and likes to be free to follow his dreams. He values beauty and truth above all else and searches for perfection. ... He is seeking the perfection of a love that has a spiritual dimension, and for him sex is a holy sacrament that should touch the spirit."

You don't say.

I don't think this deck is likely to tell me anything I don't know at the moment, but it's sort of nice to get a second opinion.
