Consonance
Mar. 5th, 2005 14:15Well, I'm here. Several familiar faces right off the bat, and as I was registering I caught the very familiar voice of Rand Bellavia singing "California". It's a good start.
It's quiet, though. After getting my badge I hopped across the freeway to Banana Leaf, had lunch, then came back and settled in the Internet Lounge. The bandwidth is... well... width is not really the applicable term. Still, it's enough to do Lily and crawl around LJ, and ICQ is up. So I do have some fix. :)
Oh... I had a smokingly hot green curry -- the beef was better than I remember, very good texture. Typical curry for Banana Leaf -- potato cubes, okra, deep-fried tofu cubes, cauliflower, yard-long beans, and particularly orange "tomatoes" (the mealy tart ones that prompted my nickname for storebought maters: "vine potatoes"). A side of steamed rice was really necessary; either they made it hotter than usual, or my tastebuds got out of shape since I last had Banana Leaf's green curry a year ago. I need to get back into the habit of curry at home...
I calmed things back down with a dessert of black rice in coconut milk, the warm version... it's one of my comfort foods, and this restaurant is the first place I ever encountered it. I am encouraged by the fact that the version I make at home is similar enough that the Banana Leaf version, which I encounter once a year, tastes completely familiar.
So I am stuffed. Happily so. BL isn't open on Sunday, so I'll end up at one of the other places tomorrow, and likely eat a 99 Ranch fried fish fillet for dinner Sunday, as usual. That leaves tonight up in the air; maybe Chinese.
There's a concert in almost an hour that I may check out, and there's doubtless some open filk going on, so I think I'll go wander. I'll check in again a bit later.
