Things I discovered today

1. There is a beautiful beach and park within 10 minutes of
emmett_the_sane's house.
2. The creek in the wetlands next to the beach is lined with pussy-willows. I had no idea there were pussy-willows in the Bay Area -- I've only seen them in Oregon. Right now they're even soft and fuzzy.
3. I still remember how to walk on sand without thrashing.
4. I had forgotten a basic lesson of childhood: always put anything you care about in a place that is totally beyond the reach of the sea. (I didn't lose my birks, but they were wet, sandy, and not in the place I left them.)
5. Do not leave said things on the other side of a creek-cut from where you need to end up when leaving. It was dry when I crossed it the first two times. When I went back to fetch my shoes, I got to cross a torrent. Twice. Sigh.
6. The ocean never changes.
