End of Stage Six
Jan. 18th, 2011 15:47Barring disaster, I'm done with the clearcoat. It took a lot of touch-ups on the frame, but it looks great, and I'm done before it gets cold tonight. So: win. It's still hanging out there, and I may leave it overnight because it's hard to find a way to rest it without scuffing something. The gas tank half is also looking good.
I baked the aluminum pieces for a while; I dinged the handlebars very slightly pulling them out (dammit) but it's a common spot for damage, and it would likely acquire scuffs there within a couple of months anyway. :/ The rest of them look good. The book rack finish is quite hard now, and I'll feel better about putting a wrench on the nuts.
I'm about to head out to Pep Boys in search of pinstriping. I also have to decide how much polishing I want to do on some of these pieces, versus simply striping and using them as is. Assembly is just around the corner.
I'm feeling slightly ill... I suspect my mask cartridges are close to exhausted, and I've had far too much curing paint and clearcoat in my living space for the last week. I'm quite ready to be done with this so I can clear the junk out of my system.
Edit: Who knew plain white 1/8" pinstriping would be so difficult to find... Auto Zone finally came through for me. Perhaps that will be tomorrow's great adventure.
