The Republican primary was called for McCain with 87 percent of the precincts reporting and a slim 242-vote difference... and the Republican Party chairman didn't plan to count the rest. After a furor was raised, they went back to counting votes, promising a result "sometime this week".
Esser said Sunday that the Republican Party was going to try to get as "close as we can to 100 percent" in the vote count. But Esser doesn't believe counting more votes will change the outcome.
Esser reportedly admits that he doesn't even know where the precincts in question are.
I may not have a dog in this fight, but I still stand for the principle that every valid vote should be counted. There is the distinct impression that Esser had no intention of finishing the count once he had come up with his own little prediction of the result.
