Today, since it was Sunday and [livejournal.com profile] mactavish had given me the craving, I made waffles for breakfast... it really is as easy as I remembered, so long as I remember to bring out the mixer. I coaxed the weasel out of bed with promises of waffles, and entertained myself in the meantime by bringing up a jar of the feijoa "jam" from a year or so ago (it had never really jelled, so it was more like fruit pieces in syrup). Place on waffle, eat waffle, heaven.

I danced with impatience as Nick finally came down and had breakfast, and by the time he had finished and loaded some of the Berkeley caches onto the Garmin, it was very nearly two. Driving felt good, though, and we made excellent time out to Albany.

It quickly became evident that we wouldn't need the sweatshirts we brought, and I was grateful for the fact that my hat was still in the back seat. We were starting to realize that water wouldn't have been a bad idea to carry when we met [livejournal.com profile] mactavish and [livejournal.com profile] deyo coming back down to their car, both looking rather abused by the daystar. We took the opportunity to walk back with them, chatting a bit, then hiked back to our car (at the very very start of the road going to GG Fields and the park) to get water. I also managed to re-park a bit closer, which was good.

We hit one cache close to the edge of the park, which wasn't too difficult to find. It had a couple of travel bugs which were already home, and an assortment of indie music (interesting). Then we went further up to check out the rumored party, and a second cache I wanted to find. We noted the surprisingly high average charm quotient of the dogs we saw.

We didn't find the party, but we did unearth the cache. We hastily signed the book (we hadn't brought any miscellany to trade) and hustled back to the car; I was rushing despite the heat, as I had an appointment with Dr. J a little way down the road. We might have made it, perhaps a couple of minutes late... except that the freeway was packed solid. Somehow I'd forgotten about the havoc caused by the downed flyover.

I got off at Gilman, got right back on (that's only faintly illegal), and crept up to University. We ended up a little over ten minutes late for a fifteen-minute appointment, but Dr. J said he was flexible and to make it when we could. We arrived radiating heat. He fixed me up fairly quickly, so now I no longer feel hunched with a sandbag laid across my shoulders, and my lower back isn't screaming anymore... I needed that. Then it was down University to Cesar Chavez park.

It had cooled off considerably, and we took our time hunting for the memorial cache for Leigh Ann Hussey. It was in a nice spot, and had a very well-made GeoCoin which had apparently made its way back to the cache yesterday. We enjoyed the flowers on the way back, and headed home to go flop.

First was a detour to grab some ice cream, though. It's that sort of day.

The weasel is a little pinkish across the nose, but I seem to have escaped punishment. Next time we a) check the weather, b) bring a hat for him, and c) bring trinkets and at least one writing implement. Oh, and I need to revive my PDA so that we can have notes on the caches we're trying to find; all three of today's were ammo boxes, but on one we weren't sure whether it might be a micro instead.

This could be fun to do on a regular basis. :)

I hadn't known that you geocached. [livejournal.com profile] zahraa and I went there for the party (caught the last hour of it), and then hit one of the caches at the Bulb, going on to do a repeat visit to the [livejournal.com profile] motogrrl memorial cache (where I left another of those coins you admired) and a new find not far away. Anyway, I saw your log in the book for "Stay on Target" and said, "I know that name."

P.S.: I carry one of those [livejournal.com profile] motogrrl coins in my pocket, habitually.

At "Albany Sun" I flipped through the logbook, but didn't see anyone I recognized... I sign with my usual handle partly because I know it's more recognizeable than my real name. Good to know I was right. ;)

Today was the first time I've cached since March of '05. Back then I was doing it a little with [livejournal.com profile] cyan_blue, hitting a few of the ones around Concord (my neck of the woods) and Burlingame (near her neck of the woods). Just recently my primary and I decided that we needed more activities together, and I splurged on a GPS receiver which arrived Friday. Since I needed to be in Berkeley for a doctor's visit, and [livejournal.com profile] mactavish told me of the stuff out on the Bulb... well, that's what brought me out there.

I may end up at some more of the caches in that area later on, as I'm out there every few weeks. We'll be hitting mostly the ones in central Contra Costa the rest of the time, I think.
