Fell on my feet this morning
Apr. 18th, 2007 13:59I woke up this morning, after restful sleep, to find that the program I had set to build last night completed with no errors.
At least one other good thing happened this morning, but I was still late out the door. That was okay, because the train was later than I was.
I came out to the Market Garden and weeded a bit before Raoul hauled me off for a "special task". He took me out to the shop, set me in front of three large bins and a miscellany of small ones, and told me that the seed stocks were getting so disorganized that it was throwing a wrench in everything. I was supposed to organize the seeds, cull any that were too old, and (hopefully) find his pack of Gypsy peppers somewhere in there. Then he went off to supervise everyone else.
I've kept seeds for a few years. Anyone who is not completely OCD will end up with a massively disorganized jumble after only a few planting seasons, and believe me, no one at the Market Garden is that neat. It was not quite enough to make a grown man cry, but I did have several WTF moments, such as when I ran across packets that listed variety, date, origin, everything but the species name. I was also completely lacking in extra small boxes (for sorting), bags to replace disintegrating ones, or a marker. sigh.
I still finished organizing shortly after noon, thereby making Raoul's life easier (though I wasn't able to make his day; the Gypsy peppers were nowhere to be found). He's a sweet guy, so at least I was able to help out that much. It should make things a lot smoother when he goes to plant anything else.
(His eyes are brown. Oh well.)
I went on to have duck soup for lunch, and successfully launched the freshly-compiled version of centericq. It works -- I've talked to
deyo on Y!IM so far without major mishap -- but it seems not to like PuTTY nearly as much as xterm (it's using lots of â characters as borders). I'll have to see what I can do about terminal settings.
I've printed out the application forms for the co-ops, since they're accepting them for next fall now; I'm contemplating staying on for a few hours tonight to have dinner, since I haven't done that in a while.
All in all, a fantastic day.
