Wrath of the papertoast
Mar. 29th, 2007 12:51This morning was not good weather for lizards. I didn't actually feel anything close to warm until just now, when I sprinted across to Research Park during lunch. I can't wait until summer.
Plant Path looks like it's going to be fun; I have yet to see the lab (that's in 15 minutes) but the prof who lectured today is a really engaging type. Given that the subject matter is my bread and butter, I think I'll have a good time.
Biochem, as usual, looks like it's going to be deceptively easy. I'm not going to fall for that this quarter -- I have to do some reading and homework this weekend. The prof looks okay, and gave us many tips for studying; he also said that the C/C+ border is going to be about 65%. Time to get used to low percentages and high grades again...
Three classes, six professors total. This co-lecturing thing is getting out of hand. :)
The reason I was over in Research Park was to pick up the biochem book from the chick who said she had it. I handed her $50, she handed me the book... the 5th edition. What edition do we need? Oh, right, the eighth. She told me the whole thing about they're all the same, they just swap things around, etc. etc. I told her we were actually handing in problems, so the edition makes a difference. Oh, you can photocopy the problems from the reserve copy in the library, etc.
In other words, I may be out $50. She had said she would get only about $40 if she tried to sell it back; I'd say they probably wouldn't take it at all, since it's four years old. The bilk was deftly done, that's for sure.
I'll spend a bit of time in the library before I go home, determining just how screwed I am. Where the chapter material is that I need to know, whether the problems have just been shifted around, all of that. The bright side is that if I do have to buy another one, I may be able to sell that (current) one back at the end of the quarter and keep this as a reference book, recouping some of my loss (I usually don't sell back books in my major). It's a small consolation.
Sigh.
