wrapping up loose ends
Mar. 20th, 2007 15:23I prowled around a while -- took a few infected leaves off the nectarine, admired the dogwood (which is exactly as I wanted it), determined that we need to replace both jacarandas after the freeze, noted that catnip is perennial here, picked a few sugar-snap peas, tied the peas up, and weeded a little. The garden is doing well. My mood is also doing better.
The part I need for the amp is actually part of a harness, which just means that they already had the wires connected to it... however, Alpine no longer supplies the harness. So it'll be a trip to Fry's for generics. It took quite a lot of explaining to get to that point, though -- I had to repeatedly tell the woman on the phone that the connector she had wasn't what I needed, that I needed the piece of it that the wires are connected to. She had the female part, I needed the male part, which was different, because connectors come in pairs. I had to repeat that last part several times. I finally got through to her by likening it to a phone cord -- you know how the phone wire has this little plastic dingus on the end, so it plugs into the phone? The piece I need is like that. Ohhhhhh, she said, and went off to consult with someone.
The upshot is that I'll get an RMA in the mail (she sounded disappointed that I don't have a fax) and I can send back the completely wrong part for a refund. I don't imagine they'll give back the $10 shipping charge as well, but $20 refunded is better than nothing.
I don't know who deserves a medal more. Me for my patience (which was far beyond my usual level) or her for sticking with it through repeated consultations, digging up the service manual, describing the part she could lay her hands on, and finally putting through an RMA for the unwanted part.
At least that's settled.
