It's pretty warm out there. I'd say it feels like the end of April already, if the sun were a bit more fierce. As it is it's beautiful.

I went to lunch at Manna, a Japanese/Korean place. They had a Beef Teriyaki lunch that came with salad, rice, and California roll... which could be subbed out for potstickers or tempura. Oy. It turns out they were using imitation crab in the roll, though -- normally that would be a minus (come on!) but for someone whose allergy to crustaceans has faded but not been confirmed gone, it was just the ticket.

So I had a decent amount of food served in a bento box; the teriyaki had a good amount of depth to it (yay for molasses instead of honey), and the rice was perfect. The ginger was good too, and I enjoyed the roll. The only flaw was that the meat was cooked in large slices, which did fall apart okay but demanded a little more patience than I had for pinching them into bite-sized bits with my chopsticks. Otherwise it was all excellent. I have more time today than usual, as App of Comp lecture is done, so I don't have to be anywhere until 3:10. Given that I haven't had time to post or catch up on lily for a couple days, I'll need it. :)

Consonance was good, though quite small. I spent the first day battling hypoxia, but went back the next day anyway. After informing two key people of what to do if the paramedics got called on me, I caught a little music, did my App of Comp homework in the computer lab, and wandered around. I was feeling good enough by dinnertime to cruise the mini-mall for food with Jim Dennis and another regular... we ended up at a hot pot place, which was a first for our companion.

The mini-mall had a toilet exhibition store. The whole place was gleaming white, with five toilets on a dais to the side of the shop, and a sign said "Ask us for a demonstration". Er...

The evening was mellow, but I went down to the dead dog party and finally got some singing in. I walked in on someone singing "Skullcrusher Mountain", sat through "Banned From Arkham" (not the Batman one) and "A Boy And His Gods" (yes, there was a string of about five Lovecraft-themed ones), and it went off from there. We had a spoken-word artist with a teeny little CD player do a piece, which was a first for me. Kathleen paired up with another filker to do a song called "Meat", which had me in stitches to the point that I had to ask her to pleeeease give me a copy of the lyrics.

Kristof, bless his heart, decided to sing "Highwayman", which I've always adored, and a piece called "Bide With Me" which produced some lovely five-part harmony. There were a few amusing ones after that -- like the song which had tightly intertwined and complex harmony which was actually a complaint about songs where it's impossible to pick out a melody because of the complexity, go figure. Kathy sang the song about Phaeton for a laugh. Someone else tossed "Our Love Is Being Kept Alive By Artificial Means" into the ring, and I was dismayed to discover that I know the whole thing now. Kanefsky filked the Firefly theme. Someone else sang an original song, "She's In Love With Abraham Lincoln", which reminded me a bit of several other artists but wasn't a real copy of any of them.

We had the obligatory sea chanty, then I asked Kathy whether she could sing "Everybody's Moon" before I went home. It still makes me cry, for reasons I've never managed to pin down. Then I headed out, and got home at around two-thirty (oof).

On a more sober note, I mentioned to Dr. J that one of my favorite artists didn't seem to be in evidence; I hadn't seen Blake Hodgetts all weekend. Apparently, three months after he was the guest of honor at the Consonance before last, Blake Hodgetts was arrested on charges of child porn and molestation. He pled guilty. He won't be attending Consonance ever again, nor (I suspect) any event I'd be at.

It hit me pretty hard, for several reasons -- I stopped by the House yesterday to talk it out, and I have a better idea of what my reactions really are, but I'll have to work through it for a while before it settles. It'll be a long time, if ever, before I can listen to the album of his I have. Among all the feelings of shock and betrayal is the sense that he stole that innocence from me, tainting something I truly enjoyed to the point I can't enjoy it anymore. I have some hope that I might be able to, sometime in the future... but not yet.

Yesterday was spent wrestling with Access to get an assignment done, and I got done just in time to miss the 7:55 train. It meant I had a leisurely dinner before getting on the 9:35, but I got home much later than I wanted to, and didn't have the chance to study biochem as I really need to. Sigh. This whole week is like that...

Tomorrow I think I'll be well enough to go to the Exploratorium. I need to catch Nick so that I can surprise him with that -- he still thinks I'll be at school. :)

I love his stuff. He rules.

I'm a little drained from the past couple of days, so I might not be so charming tonight. I do want to see you, though. I need that kind of normalcy right now.
