I almost ended up in Bakersfield today. Whoops.

I'm realizing I underdressed for the weather this morning. I have my rain jacket, but (mindful of the fact that I would need to fit that over whatever else I'm wearing) I wore only my hoodie for warmth. I nearly froze getting to campus, though I finally warmed up near the end. I should probably at least have stopped to put on my gloves.

Once again I ate one of the reformulated Mint Chocolate Zone Perfect bars this morning -- I absently read the ingredients while waiting for the train on Saturday, and discovered that they added cookie bits a couple of weeks ago. Since I was chewing the last bite at the time, and had eaten one the day before with no apparent ill effects, I didn't throw out the rest. Sure enough, it's been about an hour now and I don't feel any worse than I did before... I guess that's a sign that it's time to start easing wheat back into my diet.

I finished the first and third books of the (first?) Isavalta series. I skipped the second -- she did this infuriating thing of leaving a cliffhanger at the end of the first, and writing the entire second book set a generation earlier, before getting back to the cliffhanger in the third book. Now, I know that the second book was good background for what the hell was going on... and I know that I probably would have caught a couple more references in the third book if I had bothered to read the second... but damn, woman, can't you shoehorn that sort of stuff into the main body of the trilogy or something? Do flashbacks?

For the record, I didn't feel the lack of the second book much. The hints to what had happened in it were just kind of tantalizing glimpses into people's secret histories, but they were sufficiently outside of the mainstream plot that it was okay. I like it when an author leaves something to the imagination.

I've moved on to Hellboy: The Bones of Giants. It's pretty elaborately written, but that's the sort of flourish I expect from even the graphic novels. Not bad so far.

I aced a run of my flashcards this morning (the stack is a little over an inch tall). The additions from last lecture are only about a dozen more, so I should be able to get those reasonably easily. It feels like I have a shot at this exam now. I'll be coming up for the study session tomorrow, as I can go to the Church too, and I'll still be able to come up Monday if I have any sudden pressing questions at the end.

Time to see if Sundar can keep me awake.
