It's a quarter of accents. Whee!

Harada is faintly Japanese in his speech, and pairs off with Sundaresan, who is distinctly Indian. Then it's off to App of Comp in Ag, where Emilio Laca sounds like he just flew in from Central America (he's been here for over a decade, actually). Lastly, my Biochem/Metabolism teacher Dr. Abel is a dainty little fag (and I say that very affectionately) with a razor wit and a crisp German accent. He's literally limp-wristed, and I have to stifle a laugh sometimes when I watch him. He's delightful.

If there's anyone he reminds me of the most, it's the more femme of the gay couple from Robin Williams' "The Birdcage". Even the voice if you toss a German accent into it. Very similar mannerisms.

App of Comp is not what I expected. It's a fluff class, sure... but instead of Physics for Poets, this is Computers for Gardeners. I had thought we'd be learning programs for data collection and compilation, maybe looking into the types of computers and entry you can use out in the field...

Nope. Dr. Laca said that he figures we already know what a mouse is, but he'll start by pointing one out anyway. After that, it's on to vocabulary ("status bar", "menu bar", etc.) and finally learning the ins and outs of Microsoft Office. We even get to create our own website!

...

My biggest problem in the first half is going to be staying awake. Says the ex-professional web designer.

Really, though, it'll serve as a Windows refresher (which I do actually need) and will teach me how to use things like styles and the more involved templates/outlines in Word. Now, I hate Word with a passion -- I tend to do my written reports and papers in HTML if they're anything more than plain text, because the autowash drives me bonkers -- but I admit to a little curiosity about Word's features. All I have to do is show up, turn in the assignments, and yawn through weekly quizzes, and I should be able to drowse my way to an A. Good for my GPA.

I was able to catch the 4:55 train this evening with very little trouble, even with going back to the ARC to get my raincoat. This schedule works for me.

I should climb into the hot tub now; the biking doesn't seem to have made my legs sore, and it did loosen up my back muscles a little, but I want to try to ease a bit more of that tension.
