Noodles to nuts

torquillI had about an hour for lunch, so I stopped by Noodle House at 3rd and G. The reviews had been somewhat mixed, but by and large the food was supposed to be quite edible. I took the wiki commenters' advice and ordered the beef chow fun -- true to their name, they really do specialize in noodles. And I like a good chow fun, though I rarely find them.
The noodles were a bit greasier than I expected, though fortunately sesame oil has never given me trouble like some other types. It was essentially noodles, beef, bean sprouts, and onions... but the beef was quite tender and marinated well, with a definite taste of five-spice (never a bad thing). The onions weren't obnoxious once I picked out most of them. And the bean sprouts were actually crunchy, a nice contrast to the doughy rice noodles I like so well. All in all, a pretty classic version of chow fun, though I would never pretend that a Chinese fried noodle dish is good for one's fat intake.
There was a good amount of it, and it was cheap, too... I got out of there for $7.50 including tax and tip.
Then came the train ride... I have discovered that a light Croatian accent can easily be mistaken for some flavors of Irish accent. It was a little odd listening to the guy behind me.
I managed to break off my gearshift lever when turning the bike upside down (I was preparing to take the wheel off to fit the whole thing into my trunk). Good thing I have two weeks to deal with it. It's hard plastic, and the break has plenty of surface area, which says "superglue" to me... there are some things on which polyacrylamides really do the job, and hard plastic is one of them. We'll see.
For now, I'm trying to let the fact that I'm done sink in, and I'm contemplating a nap. I got less than six hours of sleep last night, and I'm feeling it.
