This place is a ghost town

I didn't study enough for that exam... I went into it feeling fairly confident, and then had to wrack my brain for specifics from the most recent material.

The question that got me was a two parter: Describe a tissue or growth pattern common to all vascular plants, and then mention a specific plant or plant class that has a variation on that commonality. We had to write the taxon for that plant, essentially the latin name... yeargh, I hate it when she asks for scientific name. It isn't an identification class, and I'd already become resigned to the fact that she wants us to remember some specific plants when it comes to anomalous growth (Doxantha will haunt my dreams for years). But asking us to just come up with some taxon for a plant we want to describe? Gah.

I ended up erasing my entire answer on that one about five or six times. I'm not kidding. I had to gather up the pile of eraser shavings when I left.

Shannon chatted me up when I was leaving, told me that it had been a pleasure to have me in the class, and that he thought I had really helped out some of the other students. All I could do to return the favor was tell him he had been a good TA. Good warm fuzzies there. Even if I did mutter at him that this was not one of Canington's better exams.

Even after all that, I think I did fairly well. B, probably. It should let me pull out with a low A/high B; either one would suit me. My GPA is not the greatest of my worries right now...

But you know what?

I'm done.

It's only a two-week vacation (I'll be snarling at firestrike while he enjoys his whole month off) but it's a break, a change of pace, a fresh page. Next quarter I won't be getting up quite so early, and my schedule is compressed even more than it is now. Fewer units, too. I hope it'll give me a bit of a breather.

So, the rest of today goes as follows: I veg on lily a little (hey, guess what? The SciLab computers have no time limit, and these profiles do actually allow me to download PuTTY to the desktop), read a little LJ, then go grab my spare tube out of my locker and leave the rest of my stuff there for next quarter. I ride to each of the buildings I'll be in next quarter -- I know where three of the four are, but even so. Then I maybe grab a snack, catch a train and lug my bike onboard, and go home.

Then it's the rest of the day to myself. Whew.

Pretty much any of the Windows machines would allow me to download PuTTY. It tended to be the 10-minute limit of the quick-access labs (as well as my own schedule) that kept me from really experimenting; I didn't have the time to wander through 300 lines of /review, and I tend not to send stuff unless I'm caught up.

I have a two-hour lunch next quarter, though, and I may start seeking out labs like the one at SciLab, where I can sit down and relax a little. Now that I know I can use the iLamps in the MU sit-down lab, my options have opened up a little.
