torquill: Tea cures all ills (tea)
I can definitely tell that I spent the last two days clearing and mulching the garden. I think I'll bike in low gear today, thanks...

The server went down yesterday when there was a power blip, and came up with multiple I/O errors for one of the drives. I took it down and left it for [livejournal.com profile] foogod. When he came over, he discovered that the errors were on a drive we don't use. Yay! The bad news is, it led to a bunch of testing, and sure enough the UPS that we had the server on has pretty well kicked the bucket. Add "Replace UPS" to the list. Sigh...

However, the power shenanigans also irritated the DSL router, and (temperamental beast that it is) it finally just had a nervous breakdown and lost all its settings. I called meer.net a half-hour before their support closed (at 10pm) and got no call back. Shocking. [livejournal.com profile] foogod finally figured out the settings with a bit of trial and error, and we were back up just in time for me to go to bed without doing my online homework.

All in all, I don't feel quite ready for today yet. I'll try to whip through the App of Comp midterm today and get to a computer to register for classes; failing that I'll have to miss my usual train and get down to [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts' house an hour later. Crossing my fingers on that one. At least I know what I'm aiming to register for.

I slipped in and did registration very easily. (Note to self: writing down the applicable course numbers means I can add all my classes in one fell swoop.)

My only hesitation is a discussion section on Tuesdays from 5-6. On the plus side, it's one more unit I can scrape without much effort. On the minus side, I won't be able to catch the train until 6:55, two hours later than I am now. I'll have to try it and see whether it impacts my evenings with [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts too much, and if it does I'll drop it. I'm in enough trouble already that one unit in my favor won't make much difference. ;)

The midterm was yawnable. My only issue was the question "What kind of port does your flash memory use? A) Serial B) Parallel C) RS-232 D) Firewire". I asked a TA about it and he just grinned at me helplessly. So I noted down on the test itself that my Flash memory uses USB, and that "serial" implies COM1 etc. The rest of the questions weren't challenging.

Off to biochem.
