torquill: Art-deco cougar face (happymaking things)
but I thought I should post first.

The party was lovely. Really good. I rarely stopped moving, but it was a happy sort of motion, and mostly due to the fact that I don't throw these often enough to just trust that things will go smoothly. They did, though.

We didn't watch any movies other than Kung Fu Hustle, which most of us came in on the middle of because [livejournal.com profile] silverkun and the Weasel were watching it while the rest were in the hot tub just outside. I prefer what we did instead of watching movies: snack and talk.

The sacrificial fire went well, even when we had to add more coals to keep it going. Meat, and asparagus, and corn, and finally marshmallows. Then hot tubbing, then root beer floats and lemon cake with some of the lightest buttercream frosting ever. And more talk. Then the clock struck midnight and people started to turn into pumpkins, though I didn't guide [livejournal.com profile] kuritzky out of the driveway until nearly 1. And now it's just me, the Weasel, and [livejournal.com profile] foogod.

I was handed a few items (thanks, guys!), but for the most part I enjoyed the company. The trouble with inviting people whom you all like and want to spend time with is that you never know quite where to focus... I think I got a little time with everyone, though, and I hope no one felt left out. I certainly felt lucky to see all the people, and in some cases, just the fact that they showed up was a gift. [livejournal.com profile] kuritzky, [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan, [livejournal.com profile] emmett_the_sane with [livejournal.com profile] caesia, and most especially a brief visit from the elusive Wayne... That added to the fun of being around people I see more frequently (or whom I can at least get a hold of more readily). Wayne in particular was one I had not expected, to the point of not inviting him until late because I was sure he wouldn't be able to come. And yet he said he could, and he actually did.

I missed those who couldn't come. [livejournal.com profile] firestrike, you in particular have to make it up to me later. ;)

So... If I'm to make it out to Geyserville by 2 tomorrow I should go to bed. Thanks for the excellent birthday party.

and it starts a long week. It was good, though.

It takes exactly two hours to get to Geyserville from here. The wedding was as weddings are; I've never been to even a Reform Jewish wedding, and some of the religious bits were unexpected... talk about different cultures. I ended up talking to some nice people, and finally went home as the dancing started.

The place where they had the ceremony was odd -- half cottage-style hotel, half menangerie. It's the first time I had seen some of those critters in person, particularly the white peacocks, but I could have done without the cockatiel which decided it wanted more attention and proceeded to screech every minute or two for the latter half of the evening. I felt for the ocelot and some of the birds, though, when the dance music started up at typical dance music volume. The goat and llama seemed not to care.

I drove the Silverado Trail both ways, through wine country, to the comfortable tones of the Pet Shop Boys. Lots of time to reflect, think, and even stop thinking, depending on whether the drive was easy or challenging at the time. Still, now I am tired, and I think I'll head to bed.
