I've been feeling guilty and negligent about how much soda I've been drinking. I try to get less corn syrup and more tea, when I'm taking care of myself. If there's anything that increases my tendency to gain weight (and feel more crappy) it's high-fructose corn syrup.

It just occurred to me that given my problems with detox reactions from even minor weight loss, maybe it's not such a bad idea to have all these extraneous sugar calories in my diet. Slowing the fat burnoff is a good thing. Perhaps I shouldn't feel quite so bad about it.

I should still drink more tea.

I'm not perfect, but am doing pretty good at kicking the corn-syrup habit. I'm down to maybe a couple cans a week instead of a few sixpacks.

Having foofy specialty markets around that carry stuff like Mexican Coke, Virgil's, Jones', etc. has certainly helped too. It's not a 1:1 replacement, but it is helping to wean me off the nastier stuff...

It's a difficult choice for me. Sure, high-fructose corn syrup isn't good for my health... but white sugar is like crack to me. I can get very, very addicted to it, and breaking the addiction (which I have done a few times) takes several days and a lot of cravings. I'm not really sure I want to trade the one for the other. :)
