I did finally get food, between 4 and 4:30; solid little bean tacos from the CoHo. It took me through the pop quiz(!) in biochem, which I may have (almost) aced without studying for. Yay for keeping my head. Then I walked back to the ARC, collecting a couple of valve covers from ancient bikes as I went.

See, my dad told me on the phone that the tool I need to remove a valve stem is on the back of old valve covers. Not the round ones, the ones with the notch in them. So I collected a couple and took my bike to a handy lawn.

It turned out not to be the valve stem, so I walked the whole deal over to the co-ops and changed out the tube before dinner. Took me about 20 minutes, because I (somehow) remembered how to use my little tire-irons. Those things are invaluable. So, tube in and tire on, I went to dinner at Pierce. Which was apparently 80's night, complete with Michael Jackson songs, a glitter-decorated denim jacket, tiered skirts, and a guy wearing shades like Bono's. I withdrew from the dance party which resulted (I wasn't able to eat much more than the chili and sushi this time) and walked my bike to the dorms to fill the tire.

That made me miss the 8pm train, so I went back to DSC and hung out for a while. I have a soft spot for the Davis co-op, for some reason; there are a bunch of cool people there. I talked knitting, took out a dead mouse the cat brought in (twice) and rode out to catch the 9:30 train.

I now have a metal valve cover to add to my toolkit, which is good since I managed to strip one of the plastic ones I scrounged. I may look into mounting it to a handle, and I will see where I can get spare valve stems and keep a couple on hand, just in case that really is the problem next time.

As a point of interest: this inner tube had been patched twice already. Time to spring the enormous amount of money it takes to buy a new one.

So it's been almost an 18 hour day. I've had some pasta salad (I'm very fond of that particular form of food) and I should go to bed. I'm generally doing well, though I'm filled with a deep and brooding anger over something entirely orthogonal to most of my life right now. Not sure what I'm going to do about it, but it's the kind of anger that I'm not used to -- quiet, implacable, and very strong. So I'll be chewing over the options for the next little while, I think.
