Untangling things
Oct. 6th, 2006 12:53I spent a couple of hours going from office to office this morning, and I think I have a much better picture of what I need to do.
The upshot is that I should not apply for part-time status. To remain in good standing, students need to complete 39 units a year, in three quarters. This isn't totaled until the end of Spring quarter. I'm okay with 12 for the moment. When June comes, the computer will yell at me, but I will be able to stay in good standing so long as I work closely with the people at the College of Biosci.
So what the lady there told me is that I should go through this year as I feel I'm able to -- take the load I'm comfortable with. At the end of the year, if I'm short of 39 units, she can write up an exception and base it on my disability ruling; there's a procedure for this, rarely used, but she said that if my case didn't fall under the guidelines for an exception, she doesn't know what would.
Financial Aid doesn't give a rat's ass what I do until June. Then they yell at me, but keep my aid for next year. If I still fall short next year, they render me ineligible for the third year -- but again, if I get that far, there is an appeal for circumstances like mine.
So I should just keep going as I have been, and we'll deal with it in June. I'll send updates on how I'm doing under my current load to the manager at the College of BioSci, so that she has something to hand in with her petition if I need it.
There's that stress pretty much gone, or at least deferred.
I lost my bike toolkit, found it again at Undergrad Admissions, and went to lunch. New Delhi's lunch buffet is a little bland in spots, but overall not bad, filling, and cheap. I'll try another Indian place next week.
Gotta run for Plant Prop.
