torquill: Art-deco cougar face (weirdness)

There are a couple of blogs I've been reading regularly. The first is In the Pipeline, which is written by a synthetic organic chemist and is, as you might suspect, rather geeky. Derek posts about the latest buzz in pharmaceutical circles, but that's of less interest to me than his stories of grad school, lists of nasty reagents, and chem lab horror stories. His writing style makes just about anything readable, though.

The other one I'm current on is Kung Fu Monkey. Rogers is... eclectic, and his topics reflect that. He's doing screenwriting for a few SF television shows (including Eureka on SciFi), he's working on the Transformers movie, he's one of the authors of the new Blue Beetle comic, and he used to be a stand-up comedian. So there are various posts about those things, some really funny lunch-break convos with a friend of his, reflections on current politics (from a non-rabid leftie vantage), and weird junk he runs across on other blogs and such. I like his perception and his clarity of thought and word, mixed in with some very clever and funny phrasing.

I bought the run of Blue Beetle because I thought it might be worth reading, and three issues in it definitely is. It's got a lot of humor, but it also treats the subject in a realistic fashion, with characters reacting as people really do. (Still, Batman's reaction to the Beetle throwing up in the Batcave is amusing.) I'm looking forward to the rest of the issues -- #7 is in the store now, and is apparently Rogers' first solo on this title.
