No wheelchair for me
Jul. 11th, 2006 11:59The legacy of having gone to a really good bodyworker for several years:
I woke up this morning almost unable to move my legs. It felt like someone had strapped 20-pound weights to my ankles. It's what happens when I overdo it on the exercise, and I had been doing marathon (4 hour) shopping trips the last few days...
Except that I was fine from the waist up. Not even really tired, once I woke up. Standing was fine, too, when it usually wears me out; it was just lifting my legs off the floor that presented a problem. Huh, said I. On a hunch, I twisted to crack my back.
Right, left, both made sounds like a deep fryer -- and suddenly, my legs worked. I had a feeling it might be an impacted nerve, and it used to be I'd have to call up Dr. J and go out to Berkeley for it. By now, though, he's managed to fix things enough that they move easily and I can correct things myself.
I used to have a twist at L-4/L-5 which made my feet numb and almost took a chisel to correct every few weeks. Now I can bring the lumbar vertebrae into line just by moving around. It feels good.
