Gaskell's was a blast. I shouldn't have stayed for all four sets, and I was much the worse for wear on Sunday, but it was a lot of fun. If I'd left early, I wouldn't have gotten to dance with a couple of people I really enjoyed being with.

I danced a very, very silly Sir Roger de Coverley with Brian -- that was hysterically funny, including pattycake and can-can lines along with the usual mad scrambles. He was quite tired by the time I got him for a waltz, though, and most of his attention was on navigating the crowds.

It was crowded, too; I know the February one usually is, but I always forget until I get there. We had a gaggle of high-schoolers in prom attire, who made me stare when one of the boys did some pretty fancy waltzing. Never discount because of age... the girls were having a great time, too.

I asked Jarod whether he'd grant me a dance, and he said "Yeah, well, I guess." (Curb your enthusiasm, sir, I beg you!) He's a good looking guy... pity he's so rude.

Brett wasn't there! I was so disappointed when I hadn't seen him by the middle of the second set... I always look forward to dancing with him, or at least seeing his lively steps and his smile progressing around the floor during the evening. He'll probably have a sob story about having the flu when I see him at the next ball, but I did miss him.

I borrowed a dress from [livejournal.com profile] our_meg again, and it was a perfect fit, just touching the floor when I had my shoes on. I just call it "The German" -- a bold black-on-white print in heavy cotton duck, with accents in olive green and bronze. The two questions I got most were "Are you a member of the costumers guild?" and "How did you do that collar?" (It had a standing collar with points near my ears, which had no apparent means of support -- I told them that it was Meg's magic that did it.) I just answered the costumers guild question with "no", though if they were the ones defiling such lovely dresses with hideous fake roses, I wouldn't want to be a member even if I did sew. :)

And as a note to [livejournal.com profile] our_meg: I got more compliments on that dress than anyone else got at the whole dance. It seems like a full half of the female attendees came up to me at one time or another to compliment me on it, and a few more men offered me dances than usual because I stood out. I'll have to borrow it again sometime relatively soon. :) Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] seamoose said he had never seen you wear it, though I assured him that it did belong to you.

Once the resident Gaskells shutterbug has his pictures up (Meg, you know who he is) he will probably have a picture of me, since he grabbed one fairly early on. If anyone spots it before I do, give me a heads-up and I'll link to it.
