I bought a 3.5-pound axe today. Now I have something to grab when the zombies attack. That and the five-pound sledge... The pick-mattock seems a little heavy and unwieldy, but I could handle it if I had to give the axe and sledge to other people. (Other than one fleeting look, I did not consider getting the 8-pound maul -- too hard to swing.)

My mom says that when I'm done cutting up trees and roots with the axe, it can go in with the emergency supplies. Sounds like a plan.

Emergency supplies? An axe? Well, I suppose it makes sense if you expect zombies to break down your door....

Or a fire, where you need to cut through something like a wall to get out... why you wouldn't have windows I don't know.

You really are a geek sometimes. Not as bad as some of us planning how we would fortify Chaos if Zombies ever attacked though.

No, silly, it's for going out and rescuing other people from the horde. Must have a weapon to do that with. Axes are handy because you can hack them to bits so that they no longer move...

Axes have lots of uses in real emergencies. Breaking down wood for fires, taking out trees or branches blocking roads or paths, breaking down doors which have shifted in their jambs so that they won't open (and some of the rooms in this house have no windows)... the list goes on.
