Well, yesterday did not go at all according to plan, though it did all turn out in the end.

I didn't make it to the blood drive; I hadn't been intending to donate blood before the dance (I know my limits), but life prevented me from spectating. All I have to say is that the next time [livejournal.com profile] foogod and [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts are in the same room, somebody needs to introduce them. Alas, [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts did not comment upon [livejournal.com profile] foogod's Taos shirt, and the two ships passed in the night.

As for me, after extracting a nasty splinter from my foot (yes, I'm looking into slippers now) and doing some beadwork, I showed up at [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan's place to carpool with her and [livejournal.com profile] ciarhwyfar to the Gaskell Ball. I ended up driving [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan's car, which was not too bright in retrospect, but there it is. We arrived just in time for the first set, and hooked up with various people there.

I had borrowed a gorgeous dress from [livejournal.com profile] our_meg, but (regrettably) she is taller than I am by a little. This didn't come home to me until I almost killed myself and my partner in a schottische, by repeatedly tripping over the hem. Hmm. A couple of massive safety pins later (there are always a few in the drapes, in case you need one) and I was managing to keep it mostly out of my way. I got to dance with a few of my favorite people, including a waltz with Brett (yum) and a Congress of Vienna with [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts.

I danced fewer dances than I had meant to, though, since the strenuous week was starting to hit home. I finally faded enough that I had to beg out of the carpool; [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan assured me she would get [livejournal.com profile] our_meg home, and I transferred my things from her car to [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts' car. Off we went, to fuel the Jack so he didn't fall over.

We stopped at In&Out, grabbed him some food, and went up the hill to [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan's place. Alas, the gate was locked, and I had no way to get to my car. Three calls established that the redhead herself was forty minutes away... so we did the simplest thing, and [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts took me to his place.

When I managed to get a hold of [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan, she was clever enough to have noticed that I had left my license in her car. D'oh! Should she give it to [livejournal.com profile] ciarhwyfar? No, because that would put it in Sunnyvale, far away. She finally hid it at her place, where I found it today -- the doormat was perfect, love, and I had no trouble thinking to look there. (I hope you've had a good trip so far. *smooch*)

At any rate, I slept at [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts' place, woke up, and promptly turned his house upside down to find his phone, which had been missing for a week. Once I accomplished that (I get to keep my Finder credentials) we watched an ep of Dr. Who, futzed around a bit, then he took me to lunch and my car.

The gate was wide open today, as it is on many Sundays, so the second trip had a happier ending. I shifted my stuff into Gwen with blinding speed (it was pouring, suddenly), grabbed my license, and eased gratefully into my own seat/car/music. Mmmmmmm.

I finished off the day with a bit of shopping, a bit of cranking on my lily terminal, and an episode of The Flash. Enjoying my vacation?

"Yes I am."

As a postscript, my apologies to [livejournal.com profile] our_meg for handing you off to another carpool at short notice... and also apologies to [livejournal.com profile] eyeofcanaan for causing more stress over the car/license than you needed before a long plane trip. I trust it all worked out for everyone else.

Y'know, hon... Kris lives at that complex, too. He's 004 at the call box if you ever get stuck at the gate again. He's awake late, too.
