The University of Puget Sound worked on a semester system, but assigned credits by fractions of a full 1-credit course. When I say that one of the classes on my transcript was a "quarter-unit class", that does not mean that I lied to you about the school having semesters, and that you have to go into your spiel about converting quarters to semesters. Thrice.

When I restate it as "this class was point-two-five of a unit", I should hope you could do more than throw your hands in the air and profess that you don't know what I'm talking about and don't want to.

DVC Counseling: you get what you pay for.

In other news, I got some extraneous credits knocked off the transferable units list, and I think I have a handle on how to calculate my cumulative GPA. If the old bat didn't get confused more than the four times she screwed up while I was watching.

Sadly, your tale seems about par for the course. Congrats on getting something useful out of it.

Well, to be fair, you may be familiar with it by now, but that is a very wonky way for a college to do things. I've never heard of anyplace else doing "fractional-credit" courses.. On top of that, the idea of getting 0.25 credit from a course that takes at least 0.5 years would probably take some getting used to (I'm assuming this was a 1-semester, half-workload course or something?)

..and keep in mind, these people didn't go into this line of work because they were good in math...

..and they're used to dealing with typical college students, many of whom (particularly the ones who go in to talk to the counseling office) need to be shown where their own head is, and then directed in minute detail how to hold it on so they won't lose it again...

Granted. I've never seen it anywhere since... I wonder whether they're still doing it that way. Most of my quarter-unit classes were band and such, while lab courses were one credit. A full load was four credits. Most times I was pulling 4.5-4.75, because of the music classes.

As for having to show students where their heads are -- she'd have to find her own first. :/
