I planted my kaffir lime today, in a very nice half-barrel planter with acidic planting mix. Lots bigger than its old 5-gallon pot (though I'd like to get more water on it). It's grown some in the year since I bought it, to the point where I removed the stake holding it straight... it can stand up fine on its own. It's also decided that now is The Time to Make Limes. It has several hanging now, and it's making more. I don't know what kaffir lime juice tastes like; the Thai people seem to feel it's only good for hair-washing and removing stains, though there are non-traditional recipes out there that use it. I suspect it's not bad. I might taste it and figure out what I can use it for. :)

I also picked the first full-size tomato of the season today (Vorlon, of course) and had to eat it promptly because I accidentally squeezed it. Darn. It reminded me of why I go through all the hassle for a vegetable I don't even like... the answer being that when they taste as they should, I do like them a great deal. I need to taste the tiny fruits that Dwarf Champion Improved has produced so far, see how I like those.

I'll have some green tomatoes for frying this season, but not before Vorlon cranks out a few more ripe ones for me. Yum.

Needless to say, between these things, I'm feeling like there's a reason to keep gardening.
