I am, once again, trying to figure out how to use the Back 40 effectively... My brother and I figured out that access between the yards will be adequately served by leaving the corridor (about 20 feet wide) north of the garden beds open, and I had already planned on leaving a roadway open between the beds and the fig tree (to turn right/south into the Back 40). So I'm left with four raised beds which can stay where they are, plans for four more plus enough for perennial berries and such... and the better part of a 100' x 80' area to do it all in.
I'll tell you, the existing four beds look pretty tiny sitting on one corner of that.
I did realize that while we have some lovely shade behind the shop (on the northeast end), the northwest exposure is going to be pretty brutal for anything which doesn't like really hot summers. So if I want to move the currants and rhubarb into the back (their shade in the front will go away when the acacia out there finally dies) I may have to make my own shelter to the west of them, perhaps with fruit trees or a trellis. We've got most of the fruit trees on my brother's property right now, and I'm not sure how many more we need...
I want a modest greenhouse, preferably with a small screenhouse next to it. Alex wants a small swimming pond in the corner, probably not more than about 15 feet across. I have well-water pipes on both ends, though I may want to upgrade some of them to 3/4" if I have large swaths of stuff on one valve. The second controller may come in handy at last...
I don't want to stuff it all full, but there's the feeling that we need to do *something* with it, to keep it from constantly running to weeds. So I'm staring at the rectangle on my screen and trying to work out what, and where.
So many decisions...
