I just ordered a couple of decals from Vinyl Disorder (difficult website, good designs). When I hit the site today, Firefox informed me that RetailMeNot had coupons available (there's a Firefox plugin for it). Curious, I looked up the coupon codes. The usual assortment, with a fairly high rate of success -- then the third one down caught my eye. "RETAILMENOT", offering 25% off your order. I used it, and it saved me $2.

That's the first vendor I've found that actively encourages use of RetailMeNot. Most try to get their codes taken off the site. I guess these guys realize that part of the point to promo codes is to get more orders...

On a different note: I'm tempted to send email to Vinyl Disorder to ask them to alter their website. While I understand the desire to keep people from ripping their decal designs off the internet, totally disabling right-clicking doesn't prevent anyone with even basic knowledge from doing it anyway. (I easily pulled the five designs I liked onto my computer so I could play around with placement/scale and see what looked best.) What it does do is to eliminate useful features many of us rely on -- like "Open in new tab". Sigh.

I forget if it's a default setting for Firefox, or it's just a standard option, but you can set it so that either Ctrl+click and/or middle-click will also open in a new tab. I've been middle-clicking for so long, I'd forgotten about doing it "the long way around".

What really burns me is when people do their "links" by putting JavaScript onto a non-link element. Then middle-clicking doesn't trigger the onClick event; instead, it turns on auto-scroll mode. (Try middle-clicking on something that isn't a link, like the page background.) That actually does make it impossible to open things in a new tab! Grrr!

Oh, hey, useful. Both of them work as default behavior. I don't typically think of middle-clicking on my Windows machine because I detest trying to click a scroll wheel (it always tries to rotate instead of depressing), but maybe I can finagle a way to do unix-style middle button emulation or something. Or use Ctrl-click. :)

Now I just have to remember it next time I encounter a site like that...

I like RetailMeNot and they're currently the biggest coupon site out there. I also like to use some other sites like http://www.savemo.com because they help support charity. The firefox plugin sounds cool and I'll have to check that out. Cheers!

Yeah, it took me a while to get the hang of middle-clicking on a scroll wheel, too. It's easier on some mice than others; a lot depends on just how "rolly" the scroll wheel is.
