Sensing a change
May. 18th, 2008 00:02I replaced Gwen's downstream oxygen sensor today, after some trouble finding the right tool (trust my dad to hang the 3/4" box wrench on the wall instead of putting it in the toolbox with all the other box-end wrenches) and determining that I was never going to get the sensor unscrewed from the catalytic converter unless I heated up the exhaust system to full temperature. The single burn I thought I got on my shoulder is too minor to find now.
The new one is installed, though, and after clearing the two OBD codes out of the onboard computer I took her for a drive. Five miles isn't enough of a test to really determine whether the Check Engine light will stay off, but so far I'm cautiously optimistic. I've had that damned light on my dashboard most of the time for a year now, and I'd really like it to go away.
Progress has been made in other areas today, but right now it's time to sleep.
