I'm still torn about the vote tomorrow... do I vote my principles (Edwards) or my pragmatism (Obama)?
Analyses have Obama doing well in my area/precinct, especially when it comes to delegates, so he may be fine without me. However, at least one poll shows Clinton leading him in California... while I have nothing against Clinton specifically, I think that Obama is the better candidate for a few reasons (not the least of which are media's portrayal of Hillary and Barack's orative ability). I'd rather see him win the nomination. I think her support is mainly in the southern part of the state, which I can't do anything about.
I suspect that (at least around here) most people who have given up on Edwards are leaning toward Obama. Even if Edwards has really given up, a strong showing would support the calls for an Obama/Edwards ticket, should he want the VP spot... there are a lot of advantages to him doing so, such as still being able to make policy, riding on a hopefully successful Democratic incumbency later, and being able to deal with Elizabeth's illness without the public consternation there would be if he were the POTUS. I also think that Clinton wouldn't be willing to take second place, whereas Edwards is a pragmatist (and was willing to come in under Kerry before).
Somehow, I think that if Obama doesn't take the delegates in my precinct, it won't be the fault of people like me -- I suspect I'm enough of an edge case that the ones switching from Edwards to Obama will cover my vote handily. He doesn't need a landslide, just a strong showing. So I'm leaning toward still voting for Edwards... I liked him four years ago, and I like him better now. If he could grab the VP slot under Obama, I'd be very happy.
At least this choice is better than the "which piece of crap is marginally better" deal we've had for ages.
