James Marsden looks so young
Jul. 3rd, 2007 17:59We watched the first episode of The Sandbaggers yesterday. I have to say, it's a great deal more enjoyable when I'm older than twelve.
Nick and I both like spy dramas, and Sandbaggers is one of the classics. Realistic setting, good acting, excellent dialogue (complete with dry British wit), and plots that were very, very relevant to the late 70's and early 80's. Like Queen and Country, it's almost prescient, with plots that either paralleled or actually predated the same events in real life. It comes of keeping such close tabs on international tensions, of course, but that makes it a mark of a really well-crafted drama.
We're definitely seeing the influence (okay, direct parentage) between Sandbaggers and Queen and Country. I liked the comic, and the show is like watching the movie after reading the screenplay. It really brings the whole scene to life, no matter that the TV show came first.
The series is out on DVD. If you like spies, the real-life type rather than James Bond, get it. Really.
