I was on my way to discussion section when I ran into Angela, who cheerfully said, "Hey, you weren't at discussion section today."

Buh? It was.... 3:50. For some reason I had thought the section was at 4:10, not 3:10 like it's been all quarter. Either that or I had misread my watch. As a result, I went out and tried the falafel at a mediterranean restaurant I'd never been to instead; the "snack" cost me $11, more than lunch generally does, and I'm beginning to seriously doubt the assertion of the (somewhat surly) counter clerk who assured me the falafel had no bulgur wheat in it. My system is telling me otherwise.

I have to wait almost an hour for the next train now, too.

Whatever is causing this streak of misfortune and stupidity can stop. right. now. In the meantime, I'm going to go home and hide under the covers. Wake me when it's over.

I'm sorry that things have been sucking for you lately... maybe we have shares in the same vacuum company?

Time to sell, I think, and invest in something else.

Wheat/breadcrumbs are optional in falafel, and it can be made with mashed chick peas without wheat, but yeah, there's a possibility you've been glutened.

FWIW, that arse expensive gluten-free sundried tomato/garlic bread from WF? It goes damned well in falafel I've made. Just sayin'.

*hugs*

Here's hoping tomorrow is better for you, as well as the rest of the week.

If not, hey, you're welcome to come hide with me.

I went back and told the guy that whatever he might have said about it not having wheat, it did. He asked, "Really?" and I said yes, yes it does. So he asked whether I wanted to see the recipe.

The "recipe" was the ingredients list on the side of the tub of mix: Fava beans, garbanzo beans, spices, corn oil.

Given that the falafel was the only thing that could possibly have set me off (greek salad is blameless), I told him that if anyone with gluten intolerance came in and asked about it, to tell them it has wheat in it. That's the only thing that would have spiked my pulse to 140 and made me cranky as hell for several hours. At least I don't get anything worse from it.

As any celiac knows, "spices" can mean absolutely anything.
