Yesterday: D---- would not ride again.

The one day I don't take my raincoat, after hauling it around for two weeks (it was sunny and warm!) it drops to 40 degrees and rains all afternoon. Not to mention it was the only day this quarter I've actually taken my biochem textbook to school... which was too big to fit under the luggage rack net with my bag. So it could be safely waterproofed by tossing it into the plastic bag with my schoolbag... but at least once I had to throw the whole bundle into my front basket and deal with the lack of steering ability that resulted. My hands froze so badly while riding I was crying from how bad they ached and cramped. The train up was crammed with schoolchildren, as well, and the train down had only two unreserved cars. Then [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts' heater pilot light had blown out, and the house was a toasty 55 degrees by the time I got down there. Sigh.

I skipped App of Comp to do a last cram session, and shoehorned myself into a seat in the very full lecture hall. The exam was challenging, but I got through everything, and I think I nailed at least a couple of things and gave the rest a run for their money. If I didn't get the actual answers, I did try, and I'll probably sail through on partial credit. Pretty sure I got my straight 72%, no idea what the curve is going to be. I do not envy the graders that mountain of paper.

I brought home two very chilly buckets of brew and put them in my living room in the hope that I can wake them up for [livejournal.com profile] knaveofhearts. I set up the stubborn one with a heat mat and a blanket around it. Come on, yeasts, do your thing.

Today was pretty good... the pepper seedlings had come up, and I sowed a tomato variety for Emily and put the poor scented geraniums in real potting soil (finally). Then I took the (late) videos back to the store and realized I hadn't eaten lunch. Whoops. I got to Martinez in time to cruise for food, settled on a new taqueria at the Barellessa end of Main Street, walked in and perused their menu in hope for some takeout. I spent a moment of trying to comprehend their prices -- $9.00 for one taco, rice, and beans, which was the lunch price; $2.50 for a single taco, a la carte? Dreaming, they are, and too rich for my wallet. I went back to the Amtrak station and ate an energy bar, figuring I could survive on that a while.

I got there in time to get to lab, got out early, and got some lunch. Score. Discussion was more study questions for the midterm tomorrow -- I think that so long as I think my way carefully through the problems, I'll be fine (and my notecard seems adequate). After that I went to Cowell and finally made an appointment... it's high time I ask a doctor to look into my oxygen-transport issues, as they aren't going away and get worse on days like this when I'm worn out. I asked for the doc who checked me out after the car wreck, as she seemed personable and quite sensible. The establishment at Cowell seems to really want me to trust the in-house doctors before resorting to my doctor back home, so I'll give it a try. We'll see what sort of dedication they have to trying to figure out my metabolic oddities.

I spent the train rides up and back knitting, which was a refreshing change (no more flash cards for the moment). The double-knit hat is coming along quickly, even more so once I bought a shorter set of circulars. I need to get one of those modular needle sets, so that I don't have to keep buying individual ones.

I've been lazing around the house tonight, watching an episode of Star Trek TOS (Nick had never seen "Devil In The Dark" before) and reading LJ. I'm pretty sure I'm ready for the midterm tomorrow; I just can't summon up a lot of dread over it. I'll review my notes on the train tomorrow to make sure.
