Life sucks sometimes.
Mar. 15th, 2009 11:48The state budget crisis has hit counties hard. This came home to me today when I discovered that the budget for the Contra Costa Master Gardeners -- via the Cooperative Extension -- has been cut to zero.
Zero. Nothing. It'll have to close, just like that.
I could write pages on what Cooperative Extension has done for the county and for me personally, how ours is the most vital and thriving Master Gardeners Association in Northern California. I could rant and rave and tell you all to write to the supervisors, or go to the County Board of Supes meeting on Tuesday. But really, none of it matters; government is cutting bone now, and cuts not made in one place will go even deeper elsewhere. There are no winners.
Decades of service... slash, poof, gone.
Sigh.
