I'm covered in little flecks of white.

We did the entire primer job on the old master bedroom today; it took most of the day, but it's ready to paint. The walls and ceiling look much better now, and the woodwork can be painted directly without priming. We primed two of the doors too -- they were a rough-wood finish that clashed horribly with the rest of the place (all of the upstairs doors but the bathroom's are that way) and we figured we might as well just make them white.

The walls and ceiling will be antique white, the woodwork will be bright white, so nothing exciting. Once we're done with that, we'll paint the old splintery floor with some dark earth-color, and repair the two window frames. Then, with luck, I can move in.

I commented that growing up in this house has skewed my norms: in my world, it's not unusual for a room to have a floor that slopes, not just a little, but so much that a marble would race you to the outside wall. The slope across most of the bedroom floor is slight, but about three-quarters of the way toward the south wall it gets much steeper. I'm so accustomed to it I hardly notice. Other people probably will, though.

LensCrafters wants $104 to fit me with contact lenses. I used to wear them all the time, and all I want is a fresh prescription for contacts (which means an exam). I don't need a technician to figure out the diameter I need (I have an old box that has that measurement on the label), or tell me how to care for them, or how to put them in. I could do all that in my sleep.

Anyone know where else I could go to get an exam and prescription for contacts, without going through the newbie dance? Is there some way I can get it for less than $100?

I don't think my current health insurance covers vision, even though I'd rather have that than dental. I'd probably have the place run my card and find out.

I hate the fact that I can't just go out and buy contacts off the shelf according to my current eyesight -- why can't they carry a notice saying that they should be used according to a doctor's direction and leave it at that? *sigh*
