I don't know why I bother with the Coffee House. I guess I keep thinking that with a place that big, run by the student union, with six or so different "shops" in it, is going to have something I can reliably eat.

I'll grant that it does have something. One thing: tacos. Unfortunately, the tacos are of such a quality that the only thing they have over Chipotle's tacos is proximity. They aren't even cheaper. And given that Chipotle is about five minutes away...

Apparently the CoHo, while being generally sensitive to sustainable practices (such as using local food) and to vegetarian and vegan diets, has never considered celiacs or wheat-intolerant folk. The bakery and the sandwich shop are out, so is the pasta bar, as are most of the soups (if not all, on a given day). Everything at the tex-mex counter except the tacos is made with wheat -- yes, even the cheese sauce for the nachos. (I complained about that.) I don't consider a salad bar to be capable of making a full meal. And the hot entrees counter is hit or miss on whether I can get anything wheat-free.

Add in the fact that, despite being big on sustainable agriculture, they don't seem to have bothered to source free-range meat (maybe it's the emphasis on vegetarianism), and I couldn't even eat the pho or thai curry today. They only offer chicken (which has to be free-range for me not to get sick) and tofu, which I can handle in small amounts. Sigh.

I ended up at Chipotle again. I'm getting kind of tired of the Chipotle/Thai Nakorn alternation here, but so far they're the only places I know I can eat the food, I like the food, and I can get in and out quickly. I'll have to shop around again, hit the Davis wiki. Maybe Chinese. I really wish there were decent Indian food here.

Kathmandu kitchen has a booth at the farmer's market on Saturday, which I have eaten at a few times. I like their curried spinach, though it is a bit mild, and the chana masala was pretty good (I lost most of the curried spinach to my brother, who loved it) I haven't ever been to the restaurant, though. I saw you posted a review of "enh" a while back when I poked around to see where else you have tried. I eat at the Davis food co-op deli counter sometimes, too.

Kaia's pediatrician and my vet are in Davis, so I spend a day there once in a while. Plus Jonathan and I meet there to hang out sometimes, it being a bit closer to Emeryville than my house in South Sacramento is.
