I'm doing my "rounds" at my usual sick tomato plant forum. It's a little depressing right now, and not because I'm the only "expert" currently available.

If these were people, we'd be alternating between cases of runny noses and sprained ankles, and ones of terminal cancer and braindeath. We've had a post about leaf curl (harmless), blossom-end rot (a watering issue), and lower leaves getting yellow and dropping off when the plant is introduced to the outdoors (normal). We've also had two posts about what I suspect is Fusarium wilt (incurable, must abandon the dirt and start growing in containers), one about curly-top virus (incurable, yank each plant as it shows symptoms), and a possible case of bacterial wilt, which is even nastier than Fusarium.

On the one hand, if all anyone can come up with is a few curling leaves, there are probably a lot of contented plants out there. On the other hand, I've had to tell three people that they will have to give up on ever growing tomatoes in their cultivated, cared-for soil that they worked so hard on, and will have to essentially do the plant equivalent of setting up tents for everyone on the lawn. For years.

I care too much sometimes.
