This is a long and complicated read, but I think it's an important concept that we need to understand -- both for men, and for those of us who interact with men. I recognize a lot of people I know, and myself, in this piece. It describes what could be a powerful force for transformation of both individuals and the culture... if we have the guts.

It's interesting to me that as a group men don't get why they would want to do this. I mean, if you want pleasant time with women, you have to be good to them. What's hard about that?

I think I tend to be perceived as either very nurturing or a predator. The predator designation comes either from people who do not know me, or people I have caused pain to because I didn't know how to both get my needs met, and do the nurturing thing. It's certainly the case that I've gotten better at that nurturing thing over time.

All of that being said, this may have identified how I should move my teaching to the next level. To write about my journey toward being more nurturing.
