Alive. I think.
Oct. 5th, 2007 19:23Hell week is over.
I ran out of spoons around Wednesday. Thursday I was running on forks. By this morning I was down to the ancient paper-wrapped disposable chopstick packs from Chinese takeout years past which get wedged into the back corners and forgotten. I could feel the first whispers of fever as I packed up after Ento class at noon.
I got home, had lunch, read a little, and fell on my nose. I'm now awake after a three and a half hour nap, feeling like I've got a hangover. I'll try to make it to bed early tonight.
Monday was just about perfect, as days go. Tuesday wasn't great. Wednesday was... well, nothing went wrong, but nothing really went right either; at least
amanda_nye and I had a nice shopping trip and dinner together. I scraped through by the skin of my teeth on Thursday, having read just enough for both classes that I could take the quiz I hadn't known about in one class, and participate in the discussion in the other. Today I took notes furiously and tried to stay awake.
When I haven't been actively in class, I've been running errands all over the place, trying to get things lined up and sorted out for the quarter/year, or in transit, or sleeping. There aren't enough hours in the day, particularly to take care of the ~120 pages of reading per week for my two GE classes. Those are what is whupping me -- the science courses are a breeze in comparison.
As a result, I feel like I've been through the meat grinder. I dropped all of my weekend plans except one... I'm not going to Silicon despite having a pre-reg badge waiting, I'm obviously not at Craft Night tonight, and I won't be going to Sick Plant Clinic tomorrow morning short of a small miracle. I will be in San Jose for a party tomorrow night, but only because I have to have some recreation for the sake of my mental health. Otherwise I'll be digging myself out of the academic and logistical junk that's accumulated over the last two weeks.
I hope that by Monday I'll have my balance back; it takes about two weeks to hit my stride, and this quarter's going to be a hard run. Once I figure out where to slack, when to study, and how hard the quizzes actually are, I should be okay.
Meanwhile this is the first time I've fired up my laptop since Monday, and I've been so busy running errands that I haven't had any time in the computer labs at school. I expect that to change soon, but for right now, I'm lucky if I get a chance to check my email once every day or two... keep it in mind if you want to contact me.
