I was thinking last night, "I need to pay for my lj account, it's expiring soon." Forgot about it until just now, when the expiration message hit my inbox. Sigh. At least they didn't nuke my icons.

I'm going to take a while to get used to seeing the old "Lucky's" logo everywhere. Usually, when stores get bought, they move in a name you've never heard of (see Pac Bell->SBC) or a contemporary. To see one resurrected from the dead after a couple of decades is just.... odd.

I'd totally forgotten that there's a medley of "Carmen" that was irreverently mangled performed by Spike Jones. That shows what happens when I pull out old CDs.

I need to go up and paint the floor... I got a paint chip from Ace Hardware, and when we went into the store to ask for a gallon of floor paint in the color we had selected, it took the two ladies subbing for the paint guy almost fifteen minutes to determine that they couldn't make it for us. Neither could the Pleasant Hill Sherwin-Williams store. The Concord Sherwin-Williams almost yawned and gave it to us... for $68/gallon. Ouch. Apparently floor-grade latex in a custom color is a rarity.

Not going to be ready to move in this weekend, obviously. I'll start it next week.

I thought Lucky became Albertson's only within the past five to eight years. At any rate, I hated Albertson's, and though the "new" Lucky is sort of a hybrid between the old one and Albertson's, it's better.

At least painting the floor will be easy. Just pour it out in the middle (or on the uphill side, if it's our house) and let it flow ;)

I know for sure that it has been less than 10 years, because I know where I lived when the name change happened.... (I seem to have a tendency to live only a handful of blocks away from that chain, although the one closest to me now closed) But more than 5...

Anyway, I feel more like 'oh it's back' than weirded out. I liked Lucky's better ;)

Up here, they're SaveMarts. I stopped into one tonight. I won't be going back.

Their flagging system to let you know what other store is charging more for a given product than you'll be paying because you were smart enough to come to SaveMart is highly irritating. It's visual chaff that makes it difficult for me to shop efficiently.

I guess it's just that our local Lucky closed fifteen or so years ago, and I didn't really see any until after Albertson's took over. So for me it's been more than a decade.

And this floor has a slope on more than one axis -- I paused to look at things after moving furniture and was taken aback by the obvious tilt of the bureau. I don't know how I had missed that the east side of the floor is significantly higher than the rest, though I have known for years that the last quarter of the floor on the south side runs decidedly downhill. The room has... character.
