Living in the present(ation)

Well, the near-sleepless night notwithstanding -- memories of CMEA Band Festivals managed to combine with my projections about the presentations due this morning -- ( the presentation came, and went, and apparently went well. )

I got a look at my second exam after the presentations. Jerry apparently never hands them back ("the grades haven't been recorded yet" seems to be his mantra) so I grabbed my calculator and added up the points. Oh, but that was after four of us told Kathy about the fact that the key was wrong on three scantron questions... sigh. Add three points to my total, and I got a 96. No complaints there; I had said I nailed that exam. It was the third one I was worried about...

So... bio lecture and chem review tomorrow. Pretty easy going, I think.

...how much I love my video store?

Now that I have a DVD player in my laptop (read: no TV or entertainment center required) I can watch all these things I've been wanting to for a while. Being me, of course, many of those things are reruns -- I like rewatching or rereading things almost as much as watching them the first time, sometimes more. (Who else do you know that reads the entire Death Gate Cycle every two years?) But I also have the chance to watch things I've never seen.

I'm easing into it... I took Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade back today, after reminding myself of how good a movie it is. After dropping that off, the first thing I did was to pick out the first disc of the first season of CSI from the TV section. (Damn. I forgot to ask them whether they carry any SG-1; I didn't see any there.) I've been kind of wanting to see more of that show, but given my lack of TV-watching, it'll have to be DVDs. Now I can easily watch those.

I had the presence of mind to ask the counter clerk whether there were any specials on, and sure enough, it's Twofer Tuesday. It took me a while of cruising the shelves before my eye lit on something else: Nick's never seen Red Sonja. :) So I grabbed it, took it up, and got two weeklong rentals for $2.25 plus tax.

They have a TV section, a sizeable Anime section (about half subbed, maybe more), and lots of esoterica. When I saw that they had Bubba-Ho-Tep, I smiled; when I saw that they had two copies on VHS and three on DVD, I almost cheered. And a week or so ago I noticed that they have a copy of Running Time, which I got for my own collection because I was certain I would never find it for rent. Oh, me of little faith...

Add the DVD copy of THX-1138 in the rack on top of the SciFi shelves, and this place is definitely geeky.

Three stores in the chain (Bradley), daily specials depending on the day of the week (two-for-one, four-for-two, free soda to accompany the everpresent free popcorn, etc.) and low fees. Very, very nice. It's easy to support a local video store when it rocks on toast.
